Suchi Gopal

Decision Support

Suchi Gopal is a professor in the Department of Earth and Environment and Center for Remote Sensing at Boston University. Her research interests span many areas including spatial analysis, GIS, pattern recognition, regional taxonomy and classification and modeling. Her research is multidisciplinary dealing with spatial analysis and modeling, GIS, data mining and information visualization and artificial neural networks. She has applied spatial analysis to address a variety of problems in biology, environmental science, public health and business. She has use neural networks for pattern classification, estimation and mixture modeling in remote sensing and GIS. She has designed and developed MIDAS (Modeling Integrated Decision Analysis System) for providing spatial decision support tools for a variety of stakeholder for marine coastal management, sustainable livelihoods, mangrove protection, analyzing deforestation and biodiversity in various scenario contexts including dam construction, overfishing, deforestation, and climate change scenario modeling.
